The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics is one of five Basic Science Departments in the College of Medicine at UIC.


Welcome

Welcome to the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics. The current department was formed in 2003 from the merger of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and the Department of Molecular Genetics. We are located in the Molecular Biology Research Building on the University of Illinois College of Medicine campus on the near west side of Chicago, next to Little Italy and a few miles from the Loop and Lake Michigan. Our Department is home to a broad array of research programs which facilitate interdisciplinary collaborations: (1) cancer biology, (2) genetics & epigenetics, (3) gene regulation & genome maintenance, (4) genomics, computational biology & synthetic biology, (5) infection, inflammation & immunity, (6) mechanisms of neurological diseases, (7) protein engineering, drug design & structural biology, (8) signal transduction & cell cycle control, and (9) stem cells & developmental biology. Departmental Announcement

We are undergoing a major expansion with Two independent searches for Assistant Professors.
     First search seeks applications for multiple tenure track Assistant Professor faculty positions in the areas of computational biology and genomics.
     Second search seek applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor faculty position in the areas of biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, immunology, or molecular genetics.

Dr. Rehman has been appointed Head of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics effective July 1, 2022.
